Figure Drawing for December 12, 2011

10 Minute Pose

I haven't worked with crowquill pens and ink with a brush in several years, but the previous experiments with pen and ink whetted my appetite, so I thought I'd go all in for a session or two (maybe more in the future).  I didn't bother to pencil anything in this next series, just started using the ink straight on the paper.  Any mistakes were either left on the page or brushed over ink on the black background.  Sneaky, I know... :-)

Also, sometimes errant, stray lines have a charm of their own...  I'm sure my fellow figure artist and occasional commenter, Dirk, would agree  :-)

Figure Drawing for November 7, 2011

30 Minute Pose

Once again, the black paper never seems to shoot quite right with a camera.  Oh, well.  I do, however, like the effect of doing drawings on black paper--it really makes to colors stand out and intensifies them, which I like to think of as the "Velvet Elvis" effect (back in the day, they used to have tons and TONS of paintings on black velvet... about half of which, it seemed, were of Elvis).

This was done with pastel on 12" x 18" black Strathmore 500 paper.

Happy Halloween!

OK, this is a bit of a cheat... This is from my Tombstone I painted a couple years back and was one of the first posts on this Blog.  I also posted a couple updated tombstone pictures on my (Mostly) Comic Book Blog.

The image is about 11" x 14" and was done with Acrylic paint on 2' x 3' x 1" plywood.

Two Year Anniversary!

Well, here it is, 2 years after my first "real" post on the blog (I'm not counting the one where I just said "Hooray, I'm on the InterWebs!").  So far, I've done 399 posts in two years, so, while not all that great, it isn't all that bad, either--an average of a post every 1.8 days.

Of course, if I was paying more attention, I could have had my 400th post be on the anniversary date, but I suppose it is just as good to have the 400th post be the first of year three.

This was a painting I did in 2008 for a model who was kind enough to pose for me, personally.  I worked on this painting over the better part of a week when I would have a free hour or two.  It is definitely more finished than my usual postings--which are done within the time limits of the figure drawing sessions I go to.

This was done with watercolor on 16" x 20" Waterford 140# watercolor paper.

For mild amusement, here was part of the process...

Thanks to everyone for stopping by for the past two years!  Hopefully, here's to another 2 years!  (Maybe more...)

:-)
